How to Search for a Sibley County Warrant
Sibley County splits the answer across three offices. The state case index shows whether a case exists. Court Administration reads the docket and names the warrant entry, while the Sheriff's Office confirms service and custody, so work them in that order with the file number in hand.
- Search the person's case in MCRO Case Search and filter the county list to Sibley.
- Open the register of actions and note every warrant, failure-to-appear, recall, and new-date entry.
- Call Sibley Court Administration criminal and traffic at 507-237-4055 or 507-237-4056.
- Ask which label the docket uses and what the court expects next.
- Call the Sheriff's Office at 507-237-4330 about service, custody, and bond routing.
- File a county data request when the record you need is not online.
Note: a Sibley County result is only a case entry, and only the court or the Sheriff can say whether a warrant is still active.
The Sibley Criminal and Traffic Phone Fallback
Two Sibley County numbers do most of the work. Court Administration answers criminal and traffic calls at 507-237-4055 or 507-237-4056 on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the main court line is 507-237-4051. The Sheriff's administration line is 507-237-4330, with the same weekday hours. Jail and dispatch stay open around the clock.
Have the file number ready: a clerk who has the case number can pull the entry in a minute, and a caller who cannot identify the file will be asked to call back with it.
Sibley County Warrant Search Fields
The public screen describes cases, not warrants. Its fields track a case file. Sibley County appears under the letter S in the county filter, so use the narrowest limits the screen allows.
| Field or Control | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name Type | Select | Sets the person, business, or attorney search mode |
| Last Name | Text | Exact spelling or a trailing wildcard |
| First and Middle Name | Text | Optional, and useful for a common surname |
| Date of Birth | Date | Exact date or range, month, day, year |
| Date Filed | Date | Narrows by when the case was filed |
| Case Category | Checkboxes | Criminal for most warrant questions |
| Court Locations | Radio | Statewide, or selected county locations |
| Search by County | Text | Filters the county list before the search runs |
Sibley Warrant Wildcard Search Rules
Two settings matter most. A trailing asterisk after two characters or more widens a last-name search, so Smit* returns Smith, Smithson, and Smit together. Sounds Like takes a different path. It matches by sound, not spelling. You cannot stack the two options, and a widened search returns more rows than it resolves in a Sibley County lookup. That matters here. A partial match is not an identity match, so check the birth date, case category, and court location on each row. Note: widen a Sibley County search only after an exact spelling fails, and read the rows rather than the count.
What a Sibley County Warrant Search Returns
A result is a case record, not a warrant status. These are the fields a Sibley County search returns, in the order to check them.
| Case Number | The file key used by the court, the Sheriff, and any later motion |
|---|---|
| Case Category | Criminal, traffic, or another type with its own access rules |
| Court Location | Confirms the matter belongs to Sibley County District Court |
| Filing Date | Shows whether the case is recent or dated |
| Case Status | The public status label, which is not a warrant status |
| Case Details and Documents | Opens the register of actions and any public filings |

Reading a Sibley Warrant Register
The register of actions is a case's chronological history. In Sibley County, the warrant event is one line inside it.
- Failure to appear
- A missed response or appearance that can trigger a warrant event
- Warrant of arrest
- Minnesota wording for an order authorizing an arrest
- Recall
- A court action withdrawing a warrant, which does not dismiss the charge
- Inactivation
- A status showing the warrant no longer applies to the process
- Return of service
- The entry recording how and when the order was delivered
The Sibley County criminal complaint viewer archives complaints filed on or after August 26, 2021. It shows charges, not warrant status.
The archive identifies cases by date and never confirms warrant status.
Where Sibley County Warrants Are Checked
Each office holds one piece. The court keeps the order and the case file. The Sheriff's service record and custody details fill another gap, and the Sibley County data practices office holds records that never reach a public page.

Sibley Warrant Name Match Caution
Two people can share a name. Some in Sibley County even share a birth date. The state case index says as much itself. It also warns that a case category is not a final outcome and that the index is no tool for background checks. One plausible row is a candidate, not a person. Confirm identity through the file number, the issuing court, and the office that holds the record. Restricted data about someone else usually needs consent or a court order. An alias can hide a real match too. A maiden name works the same way. Note: in Sibley County, search the spelling variants before drawing any conclusion from one row.
Access and Restricted Warrants
Adult case records are public in Sibley County by default. That access has limits. Sealed warrants, juvenile files, active investigation material, and anything a court order protects stay out of public view. A new warrant may wait until served. So an empty search is not a clearance.
Key Rules:
Minnesota Statutes 13.03 makes government data public unless a law or court order classifies it otherwise.
Rule 4 of the Rules of Public Access lists the case-record categories that remain restricted.
Rule 8 of the Rules of Public Access limits automated name searches over preconviction criminal records.
Focused Data Requests for a Sibley Record
When the record is not online, write to the Sibley County office that maintains it. No form is required for public data. A data subject request gets answered as soon as reasonably possible, and no later than ten working days. Viewing is free. Copy charges apply.
- Name the office that holds the record and the exact record you want
- Give the case or citation number, the agency, and a date range
- Ask for the public portions and the legal basis for any redaction
- State the format you want and a return address or contact
- Keep a copy of the request and the county response
Sibley County has another route. The state takes data requests for records the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension holds.
That route is a records channel, not a live warrant lookup.
